William (Bill) Hill, 87, of Stanhope, died Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Van Diest Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational - U.C.C. with Rev. Craig Blaufuss officiating. Private burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday and prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Graveside flag presentation will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. William Mason Hill, son of Cecil and Flo Workman Hill, was born July 16, 1923 on a farm north of Stanhope. He received his education in the Stanhope Consolidated School, graduating in 1940. After graduation, he started farming. He served in the U.S. Army - 643rd Engineer Combat Battalion, Tank Company. Following his discharge, he returned to farming. On February 21, 1954, he married Mary Louise Blake at the First Congregational - U.C.C in Webster City. The couple farmed north of Stanhope and also raised livestock. They have resided on their farm for over 57 years. Since 1988, they had enjoyed wintering at Mesa, AZ. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Vicki Hill of Stanhope; Robert and Jane Hill of Denver, NC; daughters, Barbara Medici of Johnston; Debra Hill of Ames; grandchildren, Megan Hill of West Des Moines; Sarah Hill of Des Moines; Jenny and Matt Papin of Des Moines; Alex Hill of Webster City; Alicia and Mike Huguelet of Chicago, Il; Maria and Brett Sandy of West Des Moines; Amelia Medici of Johnston; Cammeo Medici of Chicago, IL; Tyler Hill of Charlotte, NC; Giulia and Adam Jackson of Runnells; Tara Hill of Charlotte; five great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Welch of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Martha Hill of Stanhope; brother-in-law, Dale Hanson of Stanhope and Chet Robinson of Fort Dodge; several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Edward Medici; sisters, Cecil Henderson, Margaret Hanson, Harriet Norris and Shirley Robinson; brothers, Robert Hill, in infancy, Richard Hill and brothers-in-law, Bill Welch and Wendell Henderson. He was a member of the First Congregational - U.C.C., a Deacon, on the board of trustees and various committees; Acacia Masonic Lodge # 176 - A.F. and A.M. for 50 years; worthy Patron of Sharon Chapter # 148 of the Order of Eastern Star where he just became a 50 year member; American Legion Post # 191; past member of Izaak Walton League; Flying Farmers; Webster City Motorcycle Club, Men's Golf League at Jewell Country Club, A.S.C. committeeman and Hamilton Township trustee for many years, he also enjoyed photography, woodworking, boating, trap shooting and auto racing.
