In 1998, he retired and the couple moved to Lake View to fulfill their dream of living on a lake. This year, Verne and Anna Lou celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Verne is survived by his wife, Anna Lou; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy Batcheller of San Antonio, TX; Anthony (Tony) and Shari Batcheller of Urbandale, IA; Bruce and Jennifer Batcheller of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Paul and Kara Batcheller of Riverside, IA; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester Batcheller of Buckeye, AZ; Merlyn Batcheller of Centennial, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. His passion was spending time with his family and friends, with most of his great memories on the water: boating, skiing, and fishing. He also greatly enjoyed tending his lawn, garden, orchard, and flowers. More than anything, Verne enjoyed living life through his family and friends.
