Stephen Eldo Kurtz, 79 of Webster City, Iowa died September 28, 2011 at his home. Steve was born on September 15, 1932 to Eldo and Laura Kurtz. Upon graduating from Lincoln High School in 1950, Steve joined the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War where he was an air flight navigator. After serving for three years in the military, Steve returned home and attended Iowa State University where he studied electrical engineering. Steve then moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked with his eldest brother Maynard Kurtz in construction and became astute in the art of designing and building homes. Steve returned to Iowa where he worked and managed his family's farm raising livestock and working the land. On March 21, 1975 after, Steve married Neoma Boland, a school teacher in Webster City. Steve not only had a new a wife, but also two teenage children named Ruth and David. After the kids grew up and left the nest, Steve and Neoma moved to Frisco, Colorado in search of more vertical scenery. Here, Steve became an avid skier, and he and Neoma enjoyed biking through the mountains, entertaining friends and traveling everywhere together. Steve's love of travel took him and Neoma too many interesting places in Europe, Asia and South America. Steve is survived by his wife Neoma Kurtz of Fort Dodge, IA; his two step-children, Ruth Herring, of New York, NY; David Boland of Elk River, MN; 2 grandchildren, Christian Herring of Dallas, TX and Bryce Boland of Elk River, MN; his brother and sister in-law, Dr. Terrance and Maureen Kurtz of Waukee, IA; nieces, nephews and of course, many good friends. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Eldo and Laura Kurtz; his sister, Betheen Leopold Springman; his brothers, O'Dean and Maynard Kurtz; his sisters-in-law, Alyce and Frances Kurtz; his nephews, Michael, Thomas, and Kevin Kurtz; his niece, Cherrie Kurtz and his great nephew, Michael Watson. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday October 22, 2011 at Foster Funeral Home, with the Internment to follow at Graceland Cemetery. In Celebration of Steve's life, a reception starting at 12:00 noon will be held at the Second Street Emporium in Webster City.
