Richard Janson

Richard E. Janson, 90, of Webster City, died Monday, October 8, 2012 at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with Revs. Mike Kroona and Tony Ede officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Richard Everett Janson, son of John Edvin and Berthilda M. Jegtevig Janson was born in Webster City, Iowa on September 22, 1922. He attended school in Webster City, graduating from Webster City High School in 1940 and from Webster City Junior College in 1942. On January 10, 1943, he married Ada M. Bell at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City. In March of 1943, he entered the military with the Air Corps Technical Training Command as a B-17 Crew Chief and Flight Engineer. He was discharged in February of 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Webster City, entering into a partnership with his father, Ed, in the Janson Auto Company and for 40 years served Webster City and the surrounding area with American Motors vehicles and service, winning many distinguished sales awards and trips. Mrs. Janson died May 22, 1999. Richard will be deeply missed by his children, DeAnne (Graham) Mott of Denver, CO and David (Kathy) Janson of Allen, TX; grandsons, J.D. Frette of Bloomington, SC, Tim and Scott Janson of Dallas, TX, Michael Janson, of Webster City; his sister, Kathlyn (Jack) Rider of Green Valley, AZ. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Irene Braden and Geneice Nielson. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed trips to Canada. He also enjoyed flying his airplane. Richard served as president of the Webster City Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Hamilton County Humane Society. He also served on the Boy Scout District Council. He was a senior pilot with the Iowa Civic Air Patrol and participated in many search and rescue missions. He was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was former secretary of the Church Council. He was a member of several service clubs including, Acacia Lodge #176 - AF & AM, former Webster City Elks, American Legion Post #191 and former Kiwanis member.
