Paul H. Long, 81, of Stanhope, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Van Diest Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Foster Chapel in Webster City, with Rev. Tony Ede officiating. Burial will be in the Saratoga Cemetery, northwest of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center 2 hours prior to the service. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. Paul Harold Long, son of Harold and Lois Shoesmith Long, was born March 14, 1929 at Coon Rapids. He received his education in the Orange Center # 5 rural school. He joined the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950. On January 10, 1951, he married Gladys Irene Rungee at Audubon. The couple resided at Coon Rapids for several years, then in 1961, they moved to Stanhope. He worked on the family farm, worked at the meat locker in Coon Rapids and at the locker at Stanhope until 2009. He also was a volunteer fire fighter and worked part-time with the Coon Rapids Police. Paul is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline and Norman Seiser of Des Moines; Susan and Kenneth Griffin of Lewis; sons and daughter-in-law, Terry Long (Brenda Walker) of Sheldahl; Floyd and Miriam Long of Webster City; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters and spouses, Jessie and Earl Olesen of Audubon; Evelyn and Harry Olesen Jr. of Coon Rapids; Helen and Rich Monthier of Audubon; brother and spouse, Maurice and Angie Long of Coon Rapids; several nieces and nephews In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; 3 grandchildren; 3 brothers and a sister-in-law. He was a member of Local Union # 641, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting.
