Marion Martin

Marion G. Martin, 90, of Webster City, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs. Mike Kroona and Kari Foss, officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Fireside Room at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Marion Gail Martin, son of Carl Julius Martin and Anna Larson Martin, was born August 13, 1923 on a farm near Stanhope. He was baptized in the Rose Grove Church and attended school in Blairsburg. Marion served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre of Action during W.W. II and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars. On September 25, 1946, he married Arlene L. Anderson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed, showed quarter horses and raised cattle at their farm southwest of Webster City. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; children, Sandra (Patrick) Chambers of Webster City, Larry (Holly) Martin of Webster City, Gayle Martin of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Troy (Rhonda) Martin of Webster City; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (Miriam) Martin of Webster City; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas, Ernest and Dwayne Martin; sisters, Clarice Brim, Joyce Brooks and Ruth Carlson and a grandson, Dakota Martin Faso. Marion was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He was a member of the American Legion Post #191, former member of the Webster City Elks Club and the Moose Family Center, the Cattlemen's Association, Iowa Quarter Horse Association, Hamilton County Saddle Club and was a past 4-H Leader. In 2009 Marion went on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. giving tribute to W.W. II veterans. Marion made friends wherever he went and he loved his family, friends and God. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity Point Hospice of Fort Dodge or Webster City Meals on Wheels.
