Margaret A. Block, 83, of Webster City, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the Van Diest Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. David Simonson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Alden Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Margaret Alice Jass, daughter of Herman and Alice Briese Jass was born on August 9, 1928 in Wilke, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Alden Community Schools. Margaret earned her teaching certificate from Ellsworth Community College in 1948. On August 9, 1952, she married Dean M. Block at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden, Iowa. She was an elementary teacher for Geneva, Hubbard, Alden, Ankeny, Webster City, and the Lake Ozark Community School systems. In 1975, Maggie was asked by the Webster City superintendent of schools to teach the Vietnamise refugees. This was a task she gladly took on. Teaching was a great source of pride for Maggie, a profession she loved. Survivors include her husband, Dean Block of Webster City, daughters, Jan (Alan) Maxon of Webster City; Alice Gerber of Shellsburg, IA; grandchildren, Dena (Marlin) Rohmiller; Katie (Todd) Sonsalla; Maggie (Joel) Kennedy; Harrison Gerber all of Webster City; Max (Lila) Hamlin of New Orleans, LA; great grandchildren, Luke Rohmiller; Jake Rohmiller; Cora Kennedy all of Webster City; brother, Victor Jass of Iowa Falls; sister, Anna Jass of Marshalltown; sister-in-law, Jill Frazier of Buckeye; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Delbert and Delores Block of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, J. Vincent Block; brothers, William Jass and Harm Jass; sisters-in-law, Doris Jass and Maxine Jass. Margaret was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aide and other various church circles and activities.
