Louise Juhl

Louise A. Juhl, of Dallas Center, died Friday, September 28, 2012 at the age of 98 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. She had been in ill health for the past few months. Louise Alice Blue, daughter of Albert W. and Emma K. (Breitenkamp) Blue, was born on the family farm northeast of Blairsburg, Iowa on January 27, 1914. Her father died following surgery just two weeks after her birth. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, she attended grade school at the St. Paul's Lutheran School and completed her secondary education at Lincoln High School in Webster City, graduating with the class of 1930. In 1932, Louise entered the Iowa Lutheran Hospital school of Nursing in Des Moines, graduating in 1935. After graduation, she worked at the Hamilton County Hospital and was also a private care nurse in California. On January 5, 1938, she was united in marriage to Norman C. Juhl of rural Lehigh. They made their home on a farm near what is now Brushy Creek State Park in Webster County. Louise would most like to be remembered as an active farm wife who took part in the operations of the farm, raised her two children, attended Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe, and who was involved in various community activities and events. She was a member of the Golden Hour Club, the Married Nurses Club, Tri T, church circles and several bridge groups over the years. In 1969, following the death of her husband, Louise moved to Webster City where she enjoyed being near many of her relatives and other life-long friends. Webster City was always an important part of her life and she had many pleasant memories of her years there. In 1984, she moved to a townhouse in Dallas Center. Following an injury in late 2004, she was a resident at the Spurgeon Manor, where she was given wonderful care. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Bill) Ellerman of Dallas Center; son, Paul Juhl of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Shirley Doolittle of Duncombe; three grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Ellerman, Lori (Mike) Thomas, Carol Reynolds, and six great-grandchildren, Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Dorothy Buchfinck, and her sister-in-law, Beverly Ostlund. Funeral services will be held at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the family plot at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Memorials may be left to the Washington Lutheran Church or Spurgeon Manor in memory of Louise.
