Joyce M. Sheldon, 86, of Webster City, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Foster Chapel, with Pastor Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fosters after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time. Joyce May Chaney, daughter of Walter and Lucile McKibben Chaney, was born September 9, 1923 at Doniphan, NE. She graduated from Giltner, NE high school, then attended Kearney State Teachers College and Cedar Falls Teachers College. On Febuary 20, 1943, she married Leon Arthur Sheldon at Kearney, NE. In 1948, they moved to Jefferson, IA and in 1951, moved to Webster City. She taught at St. Thomas School from 1966 to 1983, when she retired. They had resided in Webster City for 58 years. They enjoyed traveling and spent their winters in Texas. Mr. Sheldon died July 5, 2009. Joyce had lived at Southfield since 2004. Mrs. Sheldon is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Judy Sheldon of Mason City; Ron and Veronica Sheldon of Long Lake, MN; Scott and Janet Sheldon of Bettendorf; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and James McNaul of Arden Hills, MN; Nancy and Patrick O'Donnell of Sioux Center; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucile Rader of Trumball, NE; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Leon Arthur Sheldon, Jr; daughter, Jacqueline Sheldon; her parents; 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She was a member of the Church of Christ; a Boy Scout Leader; Girl Scout Leader; the Town and Country Garden Club and the Webster City Women's Club.
