John D. Carroll,88, of Webster City, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Van Diest Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Foster Chapel, with Revs. Linda Bibb and Craig Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191 and V.F.W. Post # 1856 - Fort Dodge. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday and prior to the service John Dixon Carroll, son of John and Ermal Potts Carroll, was born July 27, 1922 at Jewell. He received his education in the Jewell Public School, he also attended I.C.C.C. During W.W. II, he served in the U.S. Army - 749th Field Artillary, in the Pacific Theatre of Action (Invasion of Okinawa). On December 31, 1954, he married Genevieve Vest at Albert Lea, MN. He farmed in Wright and Hamilton counties and worked at John Deere, Franklin's, Van Tec and Consolidated Freight and Storage. He retired in 1985. John is survived by his wife, Genevieve; daughter and son-in-law, Genonne and Steve Anderson of St. Charles; granddaughter, Shanley Anderson of Minneapolis; grandson, Benjamin Anderson of St. Charles; step-son and spouse, Bruce and Carlene Hayes and their children, Alexandria and Barret Hayes, all of Alpharette, GA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale Floyd and Leslie Carroll; sisters, Colleen Follett and Darlene Pallesen. He was a member of the First Congregational - U.C.C. and also attended Asbury United Methodist Church. His memberships also included American Legion Post # 191, V.F.W. Post # 1856, Past Master of Acacia Lodge # 176 - A.F. and A.M., Past Commander of Commandery, Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star - Sharon Chapter # 148 and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines.
