Jack M. Mason, 92, of Webster City, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Windsor Manor. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday February 12th at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Legion Post # 191. Jack Merven Mason, son of Roy and Madge Silvers Mason was born April 17, 1918 on a farm southwest of Webster City. He attended schools in Hamilton County. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the European Theatre until 1946. He married Alice Rieken on January 9, 1943 in Chicago, IL. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, they moved to a farm southwest of Webster City and lived there until 1981 when he retired and they moved to Webster City. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike (Chris) Mason, Webster City; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty (Mark) Lemke, Grimes, Shelley (Bayerd) Lande, Ankeny, Marjorie (Michael) Smith, Flippin, AR; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Alice, he was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie Carsey and brothers Masil and Myles Mason. He served 16 years on the Board of Directors at the Flugstad and United Cooperative Elevators, Township Trustee in Freedom Township, member of the Freedom # 3 School Board, three year member of the Webster City Community School Board, member of the Hamilton County Court House building committee and Hamilton County ASCS committee. He was also a former member of the Elks Lodge and longtime member of the American Legion Post #191.
