Howard S. Mickelson, 90, of Fort Dodge, a longtime Duncombe area farmer, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home at Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Washington Lutheran Church at Duncombe, with Rev. James Zuehls officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Lutheran Cemetery, south of Duncombe. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Howard Selmer Mickelson, son of Jacob and Mabell Anderson Mickelson, was born February 18, 1921 on a farm near Duncombe. He attended rural schools and graduated from Duncombe High School in 1938. On January 18, 1942, he married Lucille Marie Jacobson at the English Lutheran Church in Webster City. The couple farmed in the Duncombe area for 59 years. They moved to Fort Dodge in May of 2000. They had wintered at Fort Myers Beach, FL for several years. Lucille died March 18, 2001. He continued to reside at Fort Dodge and wintered in Florida. Howard is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Darlene Mickelson of Naperville, IL; Spencer and Vicki Mickelson of Fort Dodge; Louise Schmelzer of Rocklin, CA; grandchildren, Matt Mickelson; Rachel and Gregg Miller; John Mickelson (Angie Nielsen); Jennifer and Matt Nelson; Jason and Meredith Mickelson and Monica Mickelson; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob Mickelson; a dear friend, Carol Kreps; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rochelle Lass, 1973; son, William (Bill) Mickelson, 1994; sisters, Bertha Mickelson; Mildred Algoe; Norma Simpson and brother, Julius Mickelson.
