George Sweazey, 87, of Webster City, died Tuesday, February 12, 2014, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Michael Slininger officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fosters from 11:00 a.m. to service time. George Marvin Sweazey, son of Charles and Carrie Winchell Sweazey, was born March 10, 1926 at Webster City. He received his education in the Webster City school system. On May 20, 1946, he married Carmen E. Burnside at Fort Dodge. The couple resided in Webster City. In the early 60's, they owned and operated a restaurant, Sunnyside Cafe at Gladbrook. George worked for the Illinois Center Railroad and as a millwright. Carmen preceded him in death on February 12, 2013. George is survived by; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Black of Davenport; Terry (Dennis) Manning of Bondurant; Christine (Bruce) Hovey of South Sioux City, NE; Cheryl (Steve) Willardsen of Lake Ozark, MO; son, George Sweazey Jr. of Webster City; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles (Chuck) Sweazey; brothers, Charles, Garrett and Elwin Sweazey; sisters, Zora Fisher and Mary Iverson. Family was very important to George, he and Carmen cherished their valuable time together. He enjoyed biking, camping, hunting, fishing and playing music in George's Country Combo Band and playing at many area bluegrass festivals. He especially enjoyed the many destinations they traveled to during their time delivering Winnebago motor homes. Memorials may be directed to the family for purchase of a bench along the Boone River Recreational Trail in memory of George.
