Ethel Carden Samuelson passed away at the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, Iowa on July 3, 2013. She was born on May 16, 1928 to Ward and Aileen Carden of Duncombe, Iowa. Ethel leaves behind a daughter, Judith Samuelson Crosley and her son-in-law, Thomas Whitley Crosley of Gilbert, Arizona; a granddaughter, Jaime Crosley Malasan of Fairfield, California and her husband Ronnie; two great-grandchildren, Fernando Jay Crosley Malasan and Sophia Aileen Crosley Malasan; and two step-great grandsons, Alex and Christian Malasan. Ethel was the sister of Robert Carden of Webster City. She was preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Donald James Samuelson; a brother, Richard Carden of Duncombe; a grandson, Snell Mingle Crosley; a niece, Debbie Carden of Pennsylvania; and William and Mary Hanke of Denison. She is survived by three sister-in-laws, LeNore Waller of Stratford, Betty Carden Broshar of Webster City, and Sondra Carden of Webster City. Also surviving are Dean Carden and his wife Vicki, Diane Richardson and her husband Dennis, Carl Waller of Stratford, Annette Waller of Des Moines, David Olson of New Mexico, Chuck Crider of Pennsylvania, and the Rev. James F. Hanke, Jr and his wife Mim of Cedar Rapids. She also leaves behind several great and great-great-nieces and nephews as well as several cousins. Ethel was raised in Duncombe and spent much of her life there and in Webster City. Ethel graduated from Duncombe High School, and afterwards attended a business school in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. She enjoyed playing bridge and other card games, crocheting, knitting, and visiting with friends. She belonged to the Methodist Church of Duncombe and was an active member. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Duncombe and at one time a member of Eastern Star in Webster City. She enjoyed being with her grandchild, Jaime and her great-grandchildren, as well as attending the birthdays of nieces and nephews. She married Donald J. Samuelson (Sam) in 1947 and their daughter was born in 1949. Together they had a wonderful life together living in Webster City, Ankeny, Duncombe, and Carson City, Nevada. She and Don made many lifelong friends while living in Nevada. When Don passed away she moved back to Duncombe where she has been residing since his death, spending winters in California or Arizona with her daughter and granddaughter and families. Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery
