Esther Hassebrock, 87, of Ankeny, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Mercy Hospice at Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, at the Community Church, east of Kamrar, Iowa, with Rev. Peter Mueller officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Jewell. Visitation will be at the church from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Esther Marie Johnson, daughter of Fred and Effie House Johnson, was born December 28, 1925 at Jewell. She graduated from Randall high school. On June 8, 1945, she married Donald Raymond Hassebrock at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. The couple farmed north of Jewell. She worked as a teller at the First State Bank in Webster City, then worked for the USDA - National Veterinary Service Laboratories at Ames for 20 years. She retired in 1987. They had moved to Ankeny nine years ago. Don died June 9, 2009. Mrs. Hassebrock is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Merritt Beaman of West Des Moines; Deborah and Bill Janson of New Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Mervin and Jackie Hassebrock of DeWitt; grandchildren, Kari, Brent, Chip, Lee and Abe; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Owen, Stella, Elise, Logan and Dayne; sister, Fran Kirkpatrick of Texas; brothers, Lester (Emma Belle) Johnson of Jewell; Robert (Lucille) Johnson of Waukee; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Freda Teig; nephews, David Johnson and Denny Teig. Esther was a member of the Community Church at Kamrar.
