Elinor Brown

Elinor Betty Brown, age 79, of Kamrar died July 31, 2013 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be held at Foster Funeral Home & Cremation Center Friday August 2, 2013 from 5-8pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday August 3, 2013 at 2:00pm at Foster Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Webster City. Elinor (Barth, Mortenson) Brown daughter of Alrich "Alex" and Engeline Franken Barth was born September 11, 1933 on a farm east of Kamrar. She attended rural school, Liberty No. 9 and graduated from Kamrar Independence School. She attended Webster City JC, Ellsworth Municipal College in Iowa Falls and Drake University to earn her Education Teaching Degree. Elinor taught school in Rural School Rose Grove #7, Randall Independent School, Blairsburg Community Schools and Kamrar Schools. She later substituted in Hamilton County Schools. On June 20, 1952 Elinor married Edward R Mortenson at Kamrar. They farmed in the Jewell and Kamrar areas. Ed Mortenson was killed in a farming accident in 1973. She and her son Tim continued to live on the farm west of Kamrar until September 3, 1982 when she married George D Brown in Webster City. After their retirement they moved to rural Stanhope and later to Kamrar in 1994. George passed away in 1998 and Elinor continued to live in Kamrar until October 2012 when she moved to Southfield Wellness Community. Elinor is survived by son and daughter-in-law; Tim & Holly Mortenson of Kamrar, grandsons and their spouses; TJ & Lacy Mortenson of Rowley, IA and Alex & Brittney Mortenson of Charles City, IA and step Grandson Jamie Myers of Emmetsburg, IA, a great granddaughter Acea Mortenson, several nieces and nephews and special friend Jerry Dilley of Ellsworth. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, husband George, sister Katherine Ogland, and a daughter in infancy. Elinor was a former member of Harvest Baptist Church of Fort Dodge. She had been an organist, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher and Jr. High Youth Leader at several local churches. She was a member of RSVP and Women's Fellowship. She always enjoyed her grandson's activities, including their sporting events, 4-H/FFA Activities, Demolition Derby Events and Racing competitions. She greatly enjoyed flowers, gardening, and baking Kringla for family and friends and decorating birthday cakes.
