Edna Harris

Edna Harris, 89, of Webster City, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Southfield Wellness Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Foster Chapel, with Tim Vaughn and Greg Willert officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours before the funeral service. Edna Helen Dontje, daughter of Harm and Jenny Johnson Dontje, was born September 22, 1922 at Lakota, Iowa. She received her education in the Ledyard Public School, then received a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa and her Masters in Education from Drake University. She started teaching in a rural school near Lakota. In 1948, she moved to Webster City and taught in the elementary grades until her retirement in 1979. On November 3, 1979, she married Howard Harris at Waterloo. The couple resided in Webster City. Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, Howard; step-children, Howard and Anne Harris of Urbandale; Dan Harris of Waterloo; Kathy and Marvin Edens of Peru, IL; 9 step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
