Donald " Rube " Meyers, 94, of Webster City, died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Southfield Wellness Community. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Linda Bibb, officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 12:30 p.m. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191 and the Iowa National Guard Honor Squad. Donald Henry Meyers, son of Henry and Emma Klein Meyers, was born February 9, 1917 in Webster City. He received his education in Webster City schools, graduating from Lincoln high in 1936. Upon graduating, he began working as a tool and die maker at Beam Manufacturing (Franklin Manufacturing, then Electrolux). On October 13, 1940, he married Leah M. Kennedy at Kamrar. He then joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre of Action during W.W. II. Following his discharge, he returned to work at Beam until his retirement in 1986. Don then enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors and spending time with his family. Don is survived by his wife, Leah, residing at Southfield Wellness Community; daughters, Mickey Rudolph (Bob Wozniak) of San Diego, CA; Alys (Steve) Kehoe of Jewell; Reta (Randy) Youngdale and Dawn (Juan) Trujillo, all of Webster City; grandchildren, Brian Rudolph, Stacey Rudolph, Chris Kehoe, Mindy Moss, Jamie Garvey, Ryan Youngdale, Regan Dawson. Maria Mechaelsen, Marco Trujillo and Monica Trujillo; 18 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great- grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-daughters; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles, who was killed in W.W. II; sisters, Emily Caldwell and Mary Luckey. Don was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Moose Family Center and was a former commander of the American Legion Post # 191. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials donations be directed to the Webster City Congregate Meals or a charity of your choice.
