Darlene C. Doolittle, 72, of Webster City, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Israel Hospice House in Ames. She had been fighting cancer since September of 2010. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City, with Rev. Stephen Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Scripture service will follow the visitation at 8:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date. On June 17, 1940, Darlene and her twin sister Marlene were welcomed into their family by Walter and Viola Kirst Hanna and sister, Rosanne. Darlene attended Nora Springs Public School, graduating from high school in 1958. Following graduation, Darlene attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1962, she graduated with a BA degree, in Speech Therapy with a minor in Language Arts. In the fall of 1962, Darlene moved to Webster City to serve as a speech therapist in Hamilton County. During that time she met Robert W. Doolittle. The couple married on January 16, 1965 in Mason City. They resided near Homer. Darlene was a school guidance counselor for many years. Prior to retirement, she served as a counselor for the Youth and Family Center. She is survived by her husband, Bob; her sons, Tod (Judy) Doolittle of Webster City; Rick Doolittle of Wheatland; Troy Doolittle of San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Dakotah, Greyson, Ryeland, Drake, Hannah and Carson Doolittle, many nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marlene Fullerton and Rosanne Leurke. Darlene loved nature, planting flowers, cooking, learning, reading novels, mysteries and stories of suspense, solving word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, but most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
