Carroll Eugene Haynes was born in Agency, Iowa on January 24, 1932 to the parents of Karoline and Cleo Haynes. After graduating high school in Griswold, Iowa, he attended the University of Iowa graduating with a Doctor of Dental Science in 1959. Following graduation from Dental School, Carroll and Shirley, his wife of 60 years, moved to Webster City, Iowa and opened his Dental practice. He enjoyed a 40 year career of family dentistry. Carroll was a member of both the American Dental Association and the Iowa Dental Association. While in Webster City, Carroll was an active member of the community. He belonged to the Rotary Club, was on the board and served as board president of Webster City Federal Savings and Loan Bank, was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a regular member of the Saturday morning breakfast club. His favorite pastime was watching his children and later his grandchildren in all their athletic events. He was an avid golfer and a die-hard Iowa Hawkeye fan. In 2008 Carroll and Shirley moved to Leawood, KS to be closer to their children and grandchildren. True to his character, he and Shirley, made many good friends and enjoyed an active social life in Kansas City. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his children, , Bart Haynes, of Des Moines, Susan Haynes Erwood (Brent ), and Kim Haynes (Tom Shaw) of Leawood, KS, his grandchildren, Michael Erwood, Jonathan Erwood, Thomas Erwood, Elizabeth Erwood and step-grandchildren, Jake Shaw, Tessa and Chris Hann and Cara Shaw. Also surviving are his brother and sister, Richard Haynes and Barbara Humphrey; many nieces and nephews. Carroll was a gracious, genteel man with an unsurpassed sense of humor. He will be remembered by many for his inability to finish the punch line of a joke due to laughing. His family and friends will miss him very much, but the example he set in life will be forever remembered.
