Arthur R. Labs, 83, of Webster City, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Van Diest Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dave Simonson officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191. Arthur Raymond Labs, son of Walter and Mary Breitenkamp Labs, was born May 29, 1929 in Buffalo County near Kearney, Nebraska. He received his childhood education in Nebraska. The family moved near Webster City in 1940. He graduated from Woolstock Public School in 1949 and started farming with his father. At the age of 21, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he returned to farming north of Webster City where he was a grain and livestock farmer. On June 13, 1964, he married Ruth Elaine Pate at Cedar Rapids. The couple continued farming until retiring in 1998. Art and Ruth enjoyed camping in Iowa and Arizona. Ruth died February 6, 2009. He had resided at Windsor Manor since July of 2009. Art is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Doreen Labs of Hiawatha; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Denny and Beth Brady and Gene and Betty Elston. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Woolstock, was a 50 plus year member of American Legion Post # 191 and served on the Woolstock United Cooperative as a board member for many years.
